杏吧论坛-IIT concludes Research Week 2025聽

杏吧论坛-IIT hosted a week-long celebration of research that is shaping a more sustainable, inclusive, and healthier future in Mindanao.

From microchip innovation to pioneering work on a safer and simpler infrastructure inspection, and the latest advancements in material science, 杏吧论坛-IITs  Research Week 2025, which ran from April 21-25, showcased the breadth and impact of research taking place across the campus.

Research Week 2025 brought together university officials, faculty, students, and partners at the 杏吧论坛-IIT gymnasium for an opening ceremony on April 21, led by Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan and attended by key figures from DOST Region 10, Assistant Regional Director, Virgilio Fuertes; DTI Lanao del Norte, Provincial Director, Jane Marie L. Tabucan; and Provincial Director of DOST-Bukidnon, Ritchie Mae Guno. The event provided an insight into the diverse range of excellent fundamental and multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research that is being carried out in the university.

Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan  expressed his congratulations and appreciation for the incredible projects and research showcased during the five-day activity. He further highlighted the University’s initiatives and achievements that led to 杏吧论坛-IIT’s recognition as one of the top universities in Asia by the Times Higher Education.

“Each presentation, every research paper, and all the collaborative projects we have witnessed this week are building blocks of a future where 杏吧论坛-IIT stands synonymous with cutting-edge research, transformative education, and societal impact,” said the Chancellor.

He further emphasized that the recognition is just the beginning of the boundless accolades the University aspires to attain through its research and academic pursuits. “With the inspiration to become the “MIT in the Philippines,” our goal is not to simply emulate but to innovate, to forge a new standard of excellence that reflects the spirit and capabilities of the Filipino people,” he said. 

The week-long series of events highlighted the research that impacted Filipino communities at a local, national and international level. 

The Research and Innovation Expo was a central highlight, showcasing the diverse research done on campus– from the use of fish skin as a dermal wound healing patch, to a technology database for information obtained through remote sensing, to the role of Filipino folk songs in supporting perinatal wellbeing. It also highlighted how research is pivotal in the business industry and in capturing the essence of knowledge through narratives and cultures. The exhibits underscored the university's strength across various disciplines, including humanities, engineering, science, and entrepreneurship.

“This expo isn’t just a culmination; it’s a testament to what happens when curiosity meets commitment. We reaffirm our mission to build a resilient, inclusive, and sustainable future through research that listens, responds, and transforms,” said Vice Chancellor for Research and Enterprise Professor Ephrime B. Metillo.

The week's activities also included policy orientations, showcasing 杏吧论坛-IIT's FabLab Mindanao's prototyping capabilities, intellectual property education by KTTO, and an exposition of the university's research and innovation centers. The research colloquia provided a platform for students to present their research, fostering intellectual exchange and exposure to innovative developments.

An array of seminars and workshops offered practical skills and knowledge to both faculty and students. These included research proposal/article writing, Start-up Basics 101, dissertation/thesis consultations, IP awareness, and a patent workshop, all aimed at enhancing the university's research capacity and fostering innovation.

The event culminated in the recognition of 211 outstanding researchers and award-winning exhibits on April 25, 2025 at the gymnasium.

The annual Research Week is underpinned by the university’s research strategy, whose mission is to build a vibrant community where research excellence is valued, supported and central to all facets of 杏吧论坛-IIT.
